April 11-Art Challenge:
Journal Prompt:
Cry Me a River

For this journal challenge i decided to try something new and make a video of my process. i have created a few videos before but this was my first art journaling video.

Also, i did not use the prompt because i found a quote that i wanted to add to this journal entry.

Thank you for joining me in my creative journey and discovery!

The Documented Life Project-Week 14

April Theme
Color Safari (Exploring Inks & Paints)

April 4-Art Challenge:
Journal Prompt:
It's Water Under the Bridge

i was excited to find out that this journal entry was about watercolors. it gave me the opportunity to practice my Color Drop Flowers technique by Martha Lever. she was the featured artist, March 28, on the DLP group! love her class! :)

1. so to start off i poured some Liquitex inks over a page that i had already stenciled before

2. i then covered an old dictionary page with some Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground to prepare it for some watercolors

3. next i glued down the piece, with Matte Medium, over the right side of my journal.

i felt the left side needed some text paper.
so i added some torn pieces, following the same steps as above

4. i poured some more of the Liquitex inks over the journal and let them drip down

5. here i painted my flowers following Martha Lever's class. this part was absolutely fun!:)

6. for this step i added some words of affirmation to my page using one of my stencils, black paint and a makeup sponge

7. i felt the black letters needed something more so i went back and placed my stencil to the top and left of the words. i then applied some titanium white

8. to finalize my page i added some more texture with stamps and paint

Taking time to let go and just paint. Watercolors have always been one of my loves but have never really gotten the chance to really practice. I found a class called "Color Drop Flowers" by Martha Lever and thought, why not. I signed up and have really enjoyed following her videos. She is absolutely sweet and of course, very talented. I think i might include this in my next journal entry!:)

March 28-Art Challenge:
Make a Custom Element
Journal Prompt:
"Ride the energy of your own unique spirit"
-Gabrielle Roth

I really like the quote used in this challenge. I wanted to include photos of my family because they are the energy that
gives my Spirit wings to fly :)

1. To start off my journal i tore up pieces of paper, from an old dictionary. I used Matte Medium as my glue and covered both pages

2. Once dry,i watered down some gesso and applied a thin coat over the pages

3. As one of my custom elements, i  used a flower stencil, i designed, and sprayed some Lemon Zest Dylusions Ink Spray

4. Using the same flower stencil,i added some Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions Ink Spray

5. I continued adding layers of color, now using another custom stencil and some Funky Fuchsia Dylusions Ink Spray

This is what my background looks like with all the sprayed layers.
It sort of looks like an Easter page

6. Using a dry brush, i covered a dictionary page with some watered down gesso. I let it dry, then used it as my printer paper to print the quote on(i used an inkjet printer)

7. I tore the paper around the quote to give it a more grungy look.

8. I used another gessoed paper and stamped a butterfly using some Memento ink (the butterfly is another custom element)

I then cut out the butterflies and glued them down with a glue stick

9. I created some mini polaroid frames and cut them using my Silhouette

10. Using my inkjet printer, i printed out some pictures and glued the Polaroid frames over them

To finish off my page, i glued down my mini polaroids and drew a clothesline using a Stabilo Pencil and some pen marks

And that's about it! Hope you enjoyed my creative process. I had fun creating this page :)

The Documented Life Project-Week 12

March Theme
Making Your Mark (Doodles & Mark Making)

March 21-Art Challenge:
As a Focal Point
Journal Prompt:
Coming into focus

For this challenge i wanted to create my journal page about focusing on life's little gifts.  I included my camera and pictures that i have taken of nature.

For my background:

1. i glued down some text paper pieces (that i tore from an old dictionary)with Matte Medium

2. i added color with Splash Inks

3. i then mixed some black acrylic paint with some Modeling Paste and used a palette knife to apply it over a camera stencil that i created

I love the way Modeling Paste creates a dimensional effect!

4. i cut out a round circle from the dictionary paper and glued it down in the middle of my camera lens and outlined it with a black stabilo pencil

4. i then added texture with acrylic paints, stencils and stamps
